'Sparks of AGI' - Bombshell GPT-4 Paper: Fully Read w/ 15 Revelations

Hold on to yer butts!

(AGI means Artificial General Intelligence, meaning machines that have parity with human intelligence.)

AI image creator comes to Microsoft Bing

I can’t wait until this is fully integrated into Bing. Then I’ll have to seriously consider switching to it from Google. Being able to create all my own pictures for my videos will be terrific:

Google flexes its health care AI muscle

But I do disagree with this line:

“The bottom line: Medicine will always need to rely on a healthy mix of technology and human know-how.”

Once again, they’re not looking forward enough. If AI can pass medical exams at “expert” level right now, what do you think five more years will accomplish? Even three more years could potentially prove that claim wrong.

When "scary good" AI gets even better

An update already??

Surpassing All Existing Designs – Researchers Develop High-Voltage Microbattery With Exceptional Energy and Power Density

Try ChatGPT!

If you haven’t tried ChatGPT yet, you really should:

https://chat.openai.com/chat

I asked it to have an intermediate level German conversation with me and also translate its responses into English, and it worked very well. We had a back-and-forth about pets, with it contributing well to the conversation. Then I asked if it could correct my mistakes, which it did with subsequent conversation, including explanations correcting the mistakes. Then I asked to translate the previous dialog into Norwegian, which it did just fine. Try it for almost anything that interests you.

The writing is on the wall. I foresee people having personalized companion robots (especially useful for lonely aging populations) within the next few years.

Perovskites, a 'dirt cheap' alternative to silicon, just got a lot more efficient

“By using a substrate of either a layer of  or alternating layers of metal and dielectric material—rather than glass—he and his co-authors found they could increase the perovskite's light conversion efficiency by 250%.”

Inside The Race To Tap A Controversial Source Of Carbon-Free Energy: Nuclear Waste

“If we just get to the 95% of energy left over in spent uranium fuel, it would be easier to stop burning so many planet-heating fossil fuels. And using more of that energy would shorten the period the final waste product needed to decay back to the radiation levels of uranium mined from the Earth.

“We’re looking at ways to recycle used nuclear fuel because it reduces the amount of waste that has to be disposed of,” Hawthorne said in a conference room outside her lab one morning last October. “It also decreases the amount of time the waste has to be isolated for, from about 300,000 years to about 300 years.”

ChatGPT passes exams from law and business schools

ChatGPT has already passed the medical school exams, and now it’s passed the law school exams—only barely, but it’s a brand new technology. Give it a few more years and it will surpass the best humans:

Scientists Have Reached a Key Milestone in Learning How to Reverse Aging

VERY interesting:

“We’re not making stem cells, but turning back the clock so they can regain their identity,” says Sinclair. “I’ve been really surprised by how universally it works. We haven’t found a cell type yet that we can’t age forward and backward.”

“But in some cases the existing cells are just not functioning, so if you reboot them, they are fine. It’s a new way to think about medicine.”

That could mean that a host of diseases—including chronic conditions such as heart disease and even neurodegenerative disorders like Alzheimer’s—could be treated in large part by reversing the aging process that leads to them.”

New Research: This Activity Can Reduce the Risk of Metastatic Cancer by 72%

“We assume that this happens because the organs must compete for sugar resources with the muscles, known to burn large quantities of glucose during physical exercise. Consequently, if cancer develops, the fierce competition over glucose reduces the availability of energy that is critical to metastasis. Moreover, when a person exercises regularly, this condition becomes permanent: the tissues of internal organs change and become similar to muscle tissue. We all know that sports and physical exercise are good for our health. Our study, examining the internal organs, discovered that exercise changes the whole body so that the cancer cannot spread, and the primary tumor also shrinks in size.”
